Speak up (Uk Power Networks)

In this blog i will be analysing a corporate film about health and safety awareness for field engineers in the work place.
Below is the video.

The film is a very long corporate almost fifteen minuets long however starting the video off happy with a general version of a regular family grips in the first few seconds as they have created a story with no development. This is a clever technique as the viewer is interested to find out what will happen by the end of this film.

Through out this film the tension gets progressively more and more stressful furthermore there is a critical plot point in this film. This is when the worker is on call for a job to fix some cables. Along the journey of this film you see the individual is a risk taker. With the information you have gathered so far you begin to piece together that this individual is a happy typical family man you has a high risk job but likes to take risk. This is the perfect formula for a disaster to happen it begins to write itself which grabs the audience more and more as you have the formula in head and you are ready to piece together the final part of the story.

Further along you see that this individual has a group of co-workers who have the same attitude as he does along side the group is a new member who is new on this job who wants do this job in the correct way. However feeling outcasted by the group he decides to forfeit his attempt and lets the group proceed with the job. This greatly impacts the audience as you want the new trainee to say something as you have the idea of what is about to happen.

Then finally after the plot is finally come into play you are shocked about the incident you then see the victim after what happened and this gives you a direct message to be safe. Furthermore to add some more flavour to this film they decide to add the trainee to the mix at the end to see the victim months after the incident he then has flashbacks to that point and begins to cry. That final bit of flare gives the point of this film more influence to its message to be safe in the work place and to speak up.

The audience for this film is industrial workers or workers in the same nature of a dangerous jobs in the industrial industry it is also directed at families as many familes have parents who have dangerous jobs so it targerts the audience in which if these incidents accured again its a way to minimalize the chance of these problems happening again.

The style of this film is that is very plot driven it is a story driven film it has many parts of drama but it works well as without the plot being as well written as it is the film would fall in on itself. Furthermore the characters are key due to the plot as you have a victim both before and after as well as his family and works it creates a small secluded group of cast making it an important job for the characters to deliver a good performance to promote there message.

One final thing that made this film an amazing corporate movie was the pace. Due to the length of the film the pace in which they delivered the plot to the audience piece by piece creates a good pace to give it so much impact towards the end which makes there message so much more stronger.
